DHME UK team at the London Build Expo, discussing Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and volumetric construction in the modular construction UK sector
21 Nov 2025
DHME UK Head of Design, Robyn Thomas was at the London Build Expo together with Rory Bergin (HTA Design) and Richard Fox (Reds 10).
Fantastic to have the opportunity to discuss the future of Modern Methods of Construction and our common approaches to delivering sustained volumetric project in the modular construction and off-site construction market. A lot to consider and build on together, key points:
Many projects have been delivered successfully to date.
The scale of operations for the UK market can benefit from our global view from Daiwa House modular Europe and Daiwa House Industry Co., Itd. Strengthening our modular building systems and modular housing UK expertise.
We need a client-contractor mindset shift. Collaboration is key but early engagement at RIBA stage 1-2 and appointment of key experiences practitioners and delivery partners is essential in improving alliance integrations. So too are client/funder/developer expectations on programming – in which our volumetric construction unit of construction model offering excels, often halving time in site.
We still need the site infrastructure and clear delivery pathway for sequencing so manufacturing and construction activity on site need to develop together in sequence by collaborative working and healthy relationships.
Thank you to avid participations with questions from the floor about the measures surrounding security, Fire performance, technology and AI – insightful to learn how we as manufactures can also steer future workforce entry to staff training, apprentices and specialisms.
Looking forward to continue the discussions and support our manufacturing teams at Daiwa House Modular Europe UK to scale our offering and provide comfortable homes and places for all.
