Safety & well-being in modular construction
At Daiwa House Modular Europe, we create homes for and by people. That is why safety is always at the forefront of our profession, for our people, the environment and the communities around us. Because safety is something we realise together. Safety is not an afterthought; it is an integral part of how we design, produce and deliver our housing solutions. Safety & well-being in modular construction is embedded in every step of our process.
Aware and engaged in safety
Especially in our sector, it is essential to work safely. No matter how strong the results of our projects are, modular construction always involves risks. The key is to be aware of those risks. That is why Daiwa House Modular Europe puts awareness and commitment first. This is how we build an organisation where safety is woven into the DNA of our people, across our project sites, production facilities and offices.
The HSE department plays an important role in this. They ensure that safety remains top of mind for everyone, working closely with project teams to meet all regulations and requirements for safety, labour and the environment. We are committed to continuous improvement and actively seek feedback across the organisation. This is how we learn from experience and reduce risks. Safety is always paramount.
A little safer every day
All our operational business units are VCA-certified, and we follow a clear policy for identifying and reporting near-misses, accidents and unsafe situations. By actively encouraging reporting, we not only increase awareness, but also improve safety. As a result, we gain better insight into potential risks and continuously improve our way of working. This is how we make our work a little safer every day. Something we are proud of.
Safety and health management system (Comm’ant)
We record reports in the Comm’ant safety management system, which immediately notifies the responsible people. This enables quick action on unsafe situations and ensures high employee engagement. By actively reporting, our people contribute directly to a safer working environment, their input really makes a difference.
Managing safety responsibly: this is how we do it
- Safety awareness
From project manager to foreman, and from production worker to office staff. Everyone is aware of the risks. - Safety across the chain
In addition to our own people, we ensure that clients, contractors and subcontractors also work safely. - Responsible at work
We stay alert and learn from each other. Everyone is encouraged to identify unsafe situations or risky behaviour and work together to resolve them. - Direct action
Unsafe situations are reported and addressed immediately.
Safety and certifications
Safety is our top priority, allowing us to put people and society first. This includes the safety of our employees, partners and the environment. Daiwa House Modular Europe ensures safety across all areas and every stage of the modular construction process. We comply with recognised standards and hold the necessary certifications, including BOPAS certification, to guarantee safe and responsible construction.
Continuing to improve safety & well-being in modular construction
We continue to encourage safety, because there is always room for improvement. For this reason, we take a range of measures, including regular meetings with our employees to discuss safety situations we encounter in daily practice. The KAM (Quality, Occupational Health, Safety and Environment) coordinator is responsible for risk management on projects and carries out checks, supported by management and direct supervisors.
This includes periodic workplace inspections and observation rounds, covering both technical safety and the human factor. We focus on compliance with regulations and the correct use of personal protective equipment. Before starting work on a project, our employees conduct their own LMRA check to identify and minimise risks. We are happy to discuss what safety in modular construction means for your project.
